Hi everyone.
I am a stay at home mom with 3 kids age 6, 8 and 24. I
also have an MBA and a great work history spanning all
levels of management. I realized that there are so many
parents, not just moms, out there like me who want to
use their experience and their knowledge to help others
but that traditionally that has conflicted with their
desires to be there for their children. I learned,
through the experiences of my 24 year old, that a parent
(single parent also) climbing the corporate ladder has
to make tough choices all the time. I didn't make the
right choices often enough. Now, with my younger
children, I get a chance to make better choices.
When I first announced my decision to my friends, I
named my company "MBA Moms and More" just to acknowledge
that I would need the help of my friends as experts at
various stages. What I found instead was a huge response
of people telling me that they also wanted to work this
way and so did many other people who they knew. Some
said they were not moms or their Masters Degree wasn't
in business but they wanted to sign up.
MBA Moms Help has evolved from this goal. We decided to
take a new approach to consulting too. We talk to
customers over the email, then phone and if the clients
decide to move forward we work efficiently with the
client to save them money while giving them expert
assistance. After a 15 minute free consultation, the
client and their specific consultant agree to terms
going forward. The one rule is that the price is $100
per hour and the minimum time commitment does not exceed
5 hours. Some consultants have no minimums and charge in
5 minute increments.
Our clients are do-it-yourself types who are smart,
driven and hard working. They could read, research the
Internet or gather the information from other sources
themselves. But, they find that hooking up with a pro
gets the answer quicker and gets them on to the
solution. For example, I could have designed my own
website. Lots of people do it. It is not that hard. But
I wanted one that was fantastic, loaded fast and used
all the tools to optimize the experience. I paid a
website designer $125 per hour to do it for me and it
was done in a week. In the meantime, I still made $100
per hour helping other people with things that I am good
at. Yes, I paid them more than I earned, but, I would
have taken 80 hours and they took 20. It doesn't take an
MBA to figure out the right choice there.
So, if you need help, check us out. If you would like to
join our network, we are soon opening a website called
JillsConsultantList.com where you can post your profile,
picture and we will help find business for you. It also
is a network of people like me, and you, who are
choosing to work for themselves, from home, without
business travel, but using the education and experience
we have gathered in our lives.
Thanks for reading this message. I would love to hear
from you. |
